Well, this year will mark my fourth consecutive ALA. Woo woo!

Here are the plans:

Days
Because of transportation, we might only be able to go Saturday and possibly Sunday. What looks like is gonna happen is that we come back from UCI, go to my house and crash, then get taken to the con. That night, we'll either go back to my house, or stay in the hotel (probably not, seeing as my mother is against me staying at a hotel on my own, fffff). Then we'll go for a little bit Sunday, pack up our stuff and go back to UCI that night.



Con Activities

I'm not doing Masquerade this year. I've got one Host Club skit prepared for two people, but I'd like to take it easy this con.

A few of my college friends are coming down, and they're complete con newbies. I wanna have time to show them around and hang out with them. Not to mention all my high school buddies who'll be there too, whom I haven't seen in ages.

Saturday, I'll be hosting a panel with my friend Kagura and teaching a JPOP dance routine.

All con long, I'll be giving out ribbons as well - you'll have to catch me to pick up one for your badge. That is, if you can answer my secret question

Cosplay

Right now, I'm only bringing two cosplays.

Haruhi Fujioka, just recycling it. She's comfy and easy to wear, but I've gotta find better shoes. ;_;

My cosplay is Hachikuji Mayoi from Bakemonogatari. Right now, the backpack frame and skirt are both sitting in a box, waiting until I get home to have more room to work on them. Hopefully it'll all come out nice.

I might end up switching out Haruhi with Strike Witches, but leave off / repair the Striker Units.

Also, my love life fails for reasons most of you have already heard. (One's taken, one's gay AND taken.)

But everything else rocks like never before.

I've been kept busy with doujinshi translation up the yin-yang. Should work on cosplay but meh.

SPEAKING OF COSPLAY

ALA Plans 2010

I'm planning on cosplaying as Mayoi from Bakemonogatari. I really should get started on it, but I just can't find the time to haul it all out. It will be done.

I've also ordered "I support Fansubbers and Scanlators" ribbons from Chaz, so come see me during the con if you'd like one of those. I only ordered 100, so pickings are slim.

I might work OPs, not sure when they'd need me or for how long. But they seem to really want me for some reason.

And there's a high chance I'll be teaching another dance panel like last year. Fun.

Other than that, no Masq, no other events or complicated cosplays. Might get a hotel room with college friends for the weekend, so I gotta save money // get a job (!!!).

Man, I remembered when I used to check dA every single day.

Now I don't visit unless someone links me to their art or whatever.

I guess I've outgrown it, in a sense.

Sure, I've been writing (mainly crap for the 00 Kinkmeme, but) lately, but it's not like I'm behooved to post anything here. Not like it'll get read by anyone, and if it does, it'll be the three people who I've sent it to before posting it on dA.

Suffice it to say, I don't see a need for dA. Perhaps I was only here in the first place to find new friends and get some critique on what I was doing. Or flaunt myself a little bit. I'm thinking that's mostly the reason why people are on dA, to flaunt themselves and get some praise from everyone.

Everyone wants to be the next snapesnogger or endling or whothefuck ever. dA has really evolved into a place with more drama and wannabe drama than 4chan. Just look at the dA category on Encyclodpedia Dramatica. It's depressing and hilarious at the same time.

And, despite how dA is trying to pump up the critique part of the art, (a) you have to pay for it (wat?) and (b) nobody uses it properly. The system didn't work before; a "this is good" is not critique. There isn't any real way to fix the system, it's the userbase that is the problem. I can't count the amount of times I've seen stupid users using their dA as a photobucket, posting copyrighted images on there to show to all their KAWAII friends. And then they yell at me when I get them removed, saying that they can do what they want. Um, no.

To continue the bitch fest:

I've complained about this for years probably, but dA is not a place for writers. From the last four years (wow) I've been here, I've noticed that 98% of the userbase would rather read comics and look at pretty pictures than read a gigantic, well-formulated blob of text. After all, it's easier to look at a picture, and it's more fun to read a webcomic, than it is to try and read a story. That's really what it comes down to, and it's sad. There needs to be a separate community for writers, either on dA or on another site, in which writers who really wanted the critique, or for people to read their pieces, would be able to get it.

A site I am not about to start or administrate. I'm getting too old for that stuff. I hate dA's way of administrating communities or clubs; I'm trying to give up the Dennou Coil fanclub to someone else. It takes too much time to organize and sort members, host contests, edit the journal every time someone new joins, then watch the group stagnate as everyone forgets about it.

I don't intend to leave dA (as many of the fanbrats do over and over again) but I do intend to remove most of the people I used to watch, the 'bigger' artists that I enjoyed looking at. Just keeping my friends on here is enough. I've stopped caring about the other artists. Perhaps that's part of 'maturing on dA'.

Anyways, to end this whole ARGH I HATE dA rant, I don't really know why I'm here anymore. Sure, I'll post stuff if it behooves me, but right now, don't expect much. /rant


Shameless blogging time?

I've been focusing more on scanlating now; I've done a variety of doujins along with the monthly series we're doing. As much as the fangirls make me angry, I really couldn't care anymore. I was once one of them. They'll learn one day. I've gotta stop assuming that everyone is as experienced as I am.

I graduated high school and got my AP grades. Got 5's on everything except English, but in the long run, I didn't care. I've decided to attend UC Irvine next year, majoring in Psychology / Behavior, and possibly minoring in Japanese.

I went to my college Orientation, came down with laryngitis during the first hour. I didn't get to scream or have any loud fun, but I had the time of my life. I can't wait for college now.

I went to Anime Expo, cosplayed Amulet Heart, my first costume completely made out of raw fabric and materials. I held two Flash Mobs, one not so successful, one very fun. Our group in Masquerade won Best Group Performance, for the skit I wrote and directed. Overall, it was the best Anime Expo I've had.

My next costume is going to be Rakka from Haibane Renmei. I want to make moving wings and everything, so I've gotta go get some material to make a dress tomorrow.

I looked for a job after that for a month, but couldn't find anything. Nobody is hiring, and those who are want someone more experienced. As of now, I'm going back to my old job from last year, the Halloween shop. Not my favorite place, but whatever, it's money.

Nothing new as for love life, but frankly, I'm not really looking. I'm waiting until I settle down in college. Plus the last relationship I had made me realize (and hearing about him makes me continue to realize...oh, and other men who try to court me too) that most men around this age want sex, and aren't interested in being trustworthy friends or boyfriends. We'll see how things change in college...

As for anime, spring season ended with a bang, and it looks like I'll be following the following this summer:

Also, college-wise, I think I'm gonna be going to USC. Depends on the moneys they give me.

SPRING BREAK D: iz over
I did nothing at all. Failed my driver's exam, sat on the chons reading threads, translated some doujinshi, thought about maybe doing something, went to Little Tokyo, and procrastinated on all my homework. That sounds about right.

Eden of the East : HELL YEAH THIS SHOW IS FUCKING AWESOME GO WATCH IT NOW YOU PIG. As of now there's one ep, but it looks like it'll be the show of the season. At least in my eyes. The English voice acting is great, and the plot is hilarious. I love Mr. Naked Man, too <3

Well, plans are in full-swing for the AX Masq; I've been preparing like mad to submit our forms. Gotta send in a script to the Masq director to see if it's alright. Getting excited and getting ready to record the first layer of our audio~ (the music, I can't find a karaoke version of Mahna Mahna anywhere!)
